The Southern AIDS Living Quilt, www.livingquilt.org, is a new media collection of personal stories highlighting the face of the HIV epidemic today and its disproportionate impact on women in the South. Through the stories of women on the frontlines of the disease, the quilt aims to educate, empower and engage policymakers, healthcare providers, and communities most directly impacted by HIV/AIDS to recognize that the status quo must change. HIV/AIDS prevention must be modernized to reach the estimated 240,000 people who are living with the disease but undiagnosed – many of whom are minority women in the South. Together, we can make a difference in reducing stigma and empowering women to know their status to help prevent the further spread of HIV.
