New Reports

Washington, DC has one of the highest AIDS rates in the country and
young men who have sex with men (YMSM) and transgender young
women are two groups who are at risk for HIV infection.

As part of a project funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Metro TeenAIDS was asked by the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (SMYAL) to create a report that would serve
as a step towards increasing services for young men of color who have
sex with men (YMCSM) and male-to-female transgender youth (MTFTY)
in Washington DC. The findings of this inquiry have been compiled into
a comprehensive environmental scan of Washington D.C. and the
agencies that provide services to these populations.

The report includes vital information on needs and services based on interview with thirteen local organizations, community gate keepers,
and most valuably, focus groups made up of the young people themselves. It explores a number of areas including barriers to service delivery,
the youth needs identified and special issues of concern that dramatically impact the lives of a group at high risk for HIV in our area. This report
yields a first look at how we can work together to improve services for
youth in the DC area.

On January 29, 2003, 1 at the Charles Sumner School, Metro TeenAIDS presented highlights from the report and planning next steps for working together to improve the quality of services these young people receive. Special thanks to Oscar Lopez and Kenny Shults from Connected Health Solutions to lead us through the report and to help us explore possible work plans for the year.
