MTA Celebrates 20 Years

“Metro TeenAIDS is a gift to Washington DC! For 20 years they have been fighting to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in DC and supporting our youth. They are partners to the City, its youth and its non profit community. I applaud Metro TeenAIDS and its amazing staff for their dedication to our community,” said Mayor Fenty while signing a proclamation recognizing Metro TeenAIDS’ service to the City in recognition of 20 years of service.

On Thursday, February 19, Metro TeenAIDS commemorated 20 years of service in helping young people fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Washington DC. Roby Chavez, Fox 5 News Reporter, did a wonderful job serving as the Master of Ceremonies at the Embassy of Australia. The event honored and thanked supporters and paid tribute to the many youth who work at Metro TeenAIDS and have been served by the organization. Five youth received scholarships towards their education and training in public and community health.

Advancing the overall health of at-risk and HIV-infected adolescents is within our community’s power. During its almost twenty years of service to the Washington, DC area, Metro TeenAIDS has provided education programs and prevention resources to well over 200,000 young people, family members, and youth workers in Washington, Maryland, and Virginia.
