Metro Teen HIV Prevention Fund
Invest in the Future!

The HIV Prevention Fund provides a powerful, targeted way to invest in the HIV-prevention programs at Metro TeenAIDS. Every dollar that you contribute to this fund goes directly to programs that prevent new HIV infections among young people in the Greater Washington, D.C. area.

The goal of youth HIV prevention is simple. By giving young people the information and the skills they need to protect themselves from infection, we can save lives and create a healthier future for the next generation. Yet, the reality of HIV prevention for youth is complicated. For HIV-prevention programs to work, we must have sufficient resources to effectively reach out to those teens who are most at-risk for infection. That’s where Metro TeenAIDS’ HIV Prevention Fund comes in.

The HIV Prevention Fund is an ideal way to support teen-focused programs that work . Your contribution supports a range of HIV prevention efforts designed to reach as many youth as possible to create a culture of HIV awareness. Metro TeenAIDS is dedicated to ensuring that our HIV prevention programs have impact. We base our programs on public health research on effective programming, and improve our efforts through on-going evaluation, so you can be confident your donation is making a difference.

Help us insure that teens get the message about HIV/AIDS. Young people need information to protect their health – and they also need to believe their lives are worth protecting. Metro TeenAIDS’ effective, teen-focused prevention programs include:

  • Trained Peer Outreach Workers and Educators
Metro TeenAIDS trains young people to do outreach and education with their friends and peers. From deepest Southeast to upper Northwest, Peer Educators work in public schools and youth centers all over our community to provide young people with the information and skills to protect themselves. Our Peer Educators also reach out in clubs, in the streets, at the malls – wherever teens hang out – to make sure that young people have the resources and skills to protect themselves and their partners from sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy.
  • HIV Testing for Youth
As many as one-third of HIV-positive young people do not know they are infected. Undiagnosed teens are likely to unknowingly spread the disease to others – and, tragically, are also in danger of becoming seriously ill without proper medical care. Metro TeenAIDS creates safe places for young people to take charge of their health by offering HIV and STD testing. Teens who are HIV-positive are linked with effective care through our partnership with Children’s National Medical Center.
  • Youth Events
For too many teens, home and school are neither safe nor comfortable places to get the facts about HIV. Young people are most likely to listen – and to feel comfortable asking questions – when they are in a non-threatening situation. Metro TeenAIDS’ youth events are one more way we give teens access to resources and services, and help answer their questions about HIV/AIDS.

We invite you to help build our capacity to prevent HIV among our youth. With your help, Metro TeenAIDS can reach more young people with critical HIV prevention information and give youth the support they need to make smart decisions.
