MTA RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Our long-time Executive Director, Adam Tenner, was the 2012 recipient of the prestigious Ryan White Award for Service to Prevent HIV/AIDS to honor his lifetime commitment to AIDS prevention.
  • MTA’s Schools Services Manager Christopher Barnhill was featured at the International AIDS Conference in the documentary Passing the Torch, as a young leader in the response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
  • Six MTA youth partnered with the local theater, Arena Stage, to write, produce, and perform their own play Pulled Apart throughout the spring and summer of 2012, to express what it’s like coming of age in DC.
  • MTA was chosen as the sole beneficiary at the 2012 BET Honors, representing the face of DC youth across the nation.
  • MTA’s Community Outreach Coordinator Dwayne Lawson-Brown was presented the 2012 Emerging Leader Award by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation for his ‘Significant Contributions to African American and other Underserved Communities’ in September, 2012.
  • MTA’s Community Engagement Coordinator Spencer Olson was honored for his leadership in the youth LGBT community, specifically around his development of a mentoring program Leading Youth Forward Everyday with three other gay rights activists. In the fall of 2012, his work brought him to the White House, where his service was recognized by Vice President Biden.
